Two-Way Traffic Coming to St. Anthony Street Oct. 30

Mobile, Ala. — As part of the Downtown Street Optimization project, the City of Mobile will convert the majority of St. Anthony Street from one-way to two-way traffic overnight on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

The following morning, Thursday, Oct. 30, motorists can expect the new two-way street configuration between Broad and Royal streets. After the conversion, this section of St. Anthony Street will accommodate east and westbound traffic, and both sides will have marked, on-street parking. Please note that the block of St. Anthony Street between Royal and Water streets will remain one-way.]

These upcoming changes are part of the city’s ongoing effort to implement the Downtown Street Optimization Plan, developed in partnership with the Downtown Mobile Alliance. This project aims to make Mobile’s Central Business District safer and more accessible.

In addition to reconfiguring, restriping, and improving several downtown streets, the project will replace traffic signals at low-volume downtown intersections with four-way stops to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce traffic congestion. The overall goal is to slow traffic, create additional parking, improve pedestrian safety and enhance business access throughout the area.
