Rev. Levon C. Manzie is the Vice President of the Mobile City Council, serving as Presiding Officer and Representative for District 2. He is a fourth-generation minister, and is currently the Assistant Pastor of the St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church of Whistler, AL. He has dedicated himself to our community for many years – both through providing spiritual guidance and his extensive work in public service.

In 2008, Rev. Manzie was elected to serve on the Mobile County School Board. He served two terms as Vice President, and one term as President, and led the Board in the passage of a $100 million construction bond that serves the needs of our children.

On October 8, 2013, he was elected to serve the citizens of District 2 on the Mobile City Council and was selected to serve as the chair of the Administrative Services Committee. Manzie was reelected in 2017 facing no opposition and was unanimously selected by his colleagues for the position of Vice President. Under his leadership, District 2 is undergoing a major renaissance. He launched key initiatives to revitalize parks and recreation centers, rebuild and replace dangerous sidewalks in both neighborhoods and the Downtown Entertainment District, has directed considerable funds toward road resurfacing and drainage projects and worked to combat blight.

While focused on the future of the District, Rev. Manzie has also been dedicated to preserving its historic past - from honoring local community leaders to ensuring historic communities are properly recognized for generations to come.

He has furthered his skills in leadership and service by graduating from the 2006 class of Leadership Mobile, the United Way's Project Blueprint and earning the designation of Certified Municipal Official. He is also currently affiliated with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the Young Elected Officials Network, Mobile Area Education Foundation Board of Directors, Augusta Evans Foundation and the National League of Cities (NLC). He currently serves on NLC’s Board of Directors and has also served on their Community and Economic Development (CED) federal advocacy committee focusing on federal policy with city leaders from across the country. He has also been named by NextCity as a Vanguard, individuals identified as the nation’s top young urban innovators working to make change in cities.

Rev. Manzie is the eldest son of Rev. C. L. and Mrs. Jeanette Manzie, a native of Mobile, AL and graduate of Murphy High School and Troy University. He holds the distinction of being the youngest member to serve on both the Mobile County School Board and Mobile City Council.
