A major renovation is coming to Walsh Park following the City Council approving a proposed contract for the project sponsored by Councilman C.J. Small. The extensive work will include new sidewalks, resurfacing the existing basketball court and upgrading other park furnishings. This is the latest in a series of projects to upgrade the parks and recreation centers across District 3.

“Revitalizing this park will make a huge difference in the neighborhood which has had its share of struggles,” said Councilman C.J. Small. “Good local parks and recreation facilities can make all the difference in neighborhoods which is why we will continue to make them the best they can be.”

Using Capital Improvement Plan funds, Councilman Small has undertaken a district-wide effort to upgrade parks, recreation centers and their amenities. Recent and ongoing projects include:

  • Last month, the City officially reopened the new multipurpose fields at Maitre Park after a major project rebuilding the athletic fields, adding new lighting and fencing and to prevent flooding.
  • At Fry Park, work on a new basketball court and walking trail are nearing completion.
  • Work on the community center at Taylor Park is ongoing.
  • A designer is now working on a state-of-the-art challenge course for Trimmier Park.

“Our parks and recreation centers are the hearts of our communities , this is why these projects are so important. Our youth and communities deserve the best,” said Councilman Small.

The contract with C. Thornton, Inc. for the work at Walsh Park totals $99,437.00.
