Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Since 2022, the city has hosted Household Hazardous Waste Collection events to give Mobile residents a convenient way to safely and responsibly discard items the city is unable to collect during routine trash and garbage service. This includes common household items such as automotive fluids, aerosols, herbicides, fertilizers, fluorescent tubes, paint, cleaners, pesticides and batteries. Things like scrap tires, explosives, firearms, electronics, pharmaceuticals, medical waste, appliances and mechanical equipment WILL NOT be accepted. Spring 2026 Collection Event
The City of Mobile will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, April 11, 2026. The free event is being organized by the City of Mobile Environmental Engineering Department and will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the James Seals Community Center (540 Texas St, Mobile, AL 36603).
There is no registration requirement to participate, but the event is open to Mobile residents and individuals only. Contractors and businesses will not be allowed to drop off items during the event.
Items Accepted:
- Automotive fluids (motor oil, antifreeze, brake/transmission fluid, gasoline, oil filters)
- Aerosols
- Batteries (automotive and household, including rechargeable)
- Fluorescent tubes & light bulbs
- Oil & latex paint- limit 15 gallons
- Household cleaners
- Pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers
- Pool chemicals
- Drain cleaners
- Fire extinguishers
- Flammables (fuels, lighter fluid, kerosene, etc.)
- Solvents, varnishes, and epoxies
- Mercury and mercury-containing devices
- Small camp style propane and
- BBQ propane
Items NOT Accepted:
- Tires
- Explosives (ammunition, flares)
- Firearms
- Weapons
- Pharmaceuticals
- Biohazard materials (medical waste and needles)
- Appliances (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, washers, dryers)
- Asbestos
- Unidentified materials & containers
- Lawn equipment (lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, etc.)
- Electronics
- Non-hazardous items
- Cylinders- acetylene, oxygen, carbon dioxide, refrigerant, helium
- Radioactive materials
