City of Mobile is StormReady®

Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile has joined the National Weather Service’s StormReady® Program, a voluntary program designed to help communities take a proactive approach to severe weather by improving our readiness and public awareness. The City of Mobile’s Office of Resilience and Sustainability, part of the Department of Public Safety, continues to strengthen our formal hazardous weather plan.

The StormReady® Program began in 2000, allowing local agencies to earn recognition for their jurisdiction by meeting guidelines established by the NWS in partnership with federal, state and local emergency management officials.

Being StormReady® doesn’t mean we’re not susceptible to the effects severe weather can bring, but it ensures the City of Mobile is better prepared to handle severe weather events.

The National Weather Service will officially welcome the City of Mobile into the StormReady® Program on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, during the regularly scheduled Mobile City Council meeting.

“Joining the StormReady® Program validates our commitment to protecting our residents, visitors and infrastructure anytime severe weather threatens Mobile. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I look forward to continuing these efforts to better prepare our community for what’s ahead,” said Lance Slater, Director of Resilience and Sustainability.
