City of Mobile offices closing at 2:30 p.m. today due to severe weather

Mobile, Ala. — Due to the imminent threat of severe weather, Mayor Sandy Stimpson has declared a civil emergency in the City of Mobile beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024.

For the safety of employees, all non-emergency City of Mobile offices will be closing at 2:30 p.m., including the Recycling Centers on Museum Drive and Pinehill Drive. City offices will resume regular operations at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, severe storms are possible tonight as an intense squall moves east through the area. Damaging winds over 70 mph and tornadoes are the main threats, with stronger tornadoes possible in some areas of our community. The City of Mobile’s public safety and public services crews are on standby to respond to damage caused by the storms.

As always, if you have an emergency, please contact 911 immediately. You can also reach the Mobile Police Department’s Non-Emergency line at (251) 208-7211. This is the best way to report downed trees or power lines, water over the roadway or traffic signal outages after regular business hours. If you see a downed tree or power line, please stay 30 to 50 feet away until our teams arrive.
