Mobile, Ala. — On Thursday, August 7, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson will join District 4 Councilman Ben Reynolds and officials from the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD) to kick off the construction of the department’s newest fire station. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m.

Fire Station 19 will be located at 1301 Azalea Rd. and will replace the 68-year-old McCosker Fire Station located at 1275 Azalea Rd. In addition to housing Engine 19 and Rescue 19, the new station will bring additional capacity to the area by relocating a dedicated HAZ-MAT unit to the area.

This project represents a roughly $4.6 million investment that will replace one of MFRD’s oldest active facilities. It is being funded through the City of Mobile’s Capital Improvement Program, with nearly half the project cost being covered by Councilman Ben Reynolds’ district capital funding.

Earlier this week, the Mobile City Council approved a construction contract with Harris Contracting Services to build the new station, which was designed by Forrest Daniell and Associates. The project is being managed by Volkert Inc. on behalf of the City of Mobile.

The construction of a new Station 19 is part of an ongoing plan to upgrade and replace MFRD fire stations throughout the City of Mobile. The plan was developed by MFRD leadership with support from Mayor Stimpson and the Mobile City Council. This will be the third fire station the City of Mobile has replaced since 2017, and plans for several others are already in the works.

Members of the media are invited to attend the groundbreaking for Station 19, which will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 7. Mayor Stimpson and other leaders from the City of Mobile and MFRD will be available to speak about the new fire station and future upgrades to MFRD facilities.
