Household Hazardous Waste Collection for City of Mobile Residents

Mobile, Ala. — Get a head start on your holiday cleaning at the City of Mobile’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Jan. 20, 2024, at James Seals Jr. Park. 

This free event will give City of Mobile residents a chance to safely and responsibly discard items that aren’t accepted by routine trash and garbage collection services. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024. The collection will be at Seals Park, located at 540 Texas Street in Mobile.  

Some accepted items include automotive fluids, aerosols, batteries, fluorescent tubes, paint, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, among others. The event WILL NOT accept tires, explosives, firearms, electronics, pharmaceuticals, medical waste, appliances, equipment, and other prohibited items. 

The event is open to Mobile residents and individuals only. Contractors and businesses will not be allowed to participate, and participants will be asked to verify the zip code of their home address.

Unlike similar events in the past, registration will not be required. Any resident is welcome to drop off approved items at any point during the event on Jan. 20, 2024. · Automotive Fluids (motor oil, antifreeze, brake/transmission fluid, gasoline, oil filters)
· Aerosols
· Batteries (automotive and household including rechargeable)
· Fluorescent Tubes & Light Bulbs
· Oil & Latex Paint- limit 15 gallons
· Household Cleaners
· Pesticides, Herbicides, Fertilizers
· Pool Chemicals
· Drain Cleaners
· Fire Extinguishers
· Flammables (fuels, lighter fluid, kerosene, etc.)
· Solvents, varnishes, and epoxies
· Mercury and mercury containing devices
· Small Camp Style Propane and BBQ Propane

Items NOT Accepted:

· Tires
· Explosives (ammunition, flares)
· Firearms
· Weapons
· Pharmaceuticals
· Biohazard materials (medical waste and needles)
· Appliances (Refrigerators, Freezers, Air Conditioners, Washers, Dryers)
· Asbestos
· Unidentified materials & containers
· Lawn Equipment (lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, etc.)
· Electronics
· Non-hazardous items
· Cylinders-Acetylene, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, Refrigerant, Helium
· Radioactive materials
