MAWSS Set to Begin Work on Houston St.

Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) is set to begin the first of two phases of work on Houston St. that will involve closing sections of the road to through traffic. Beginning Wednesday, May 13, Houston Street will be closed between Hunter and Conti Sts. as contractors for MAWSS begin replacing public sewer laterals. Work on the first phase is expected to take approximately 4 weeks, weather permitting. Motorists should follow detour signs posted.

The second phase of the project, involving the replacement of water and sanitary sewer lines, will close Houston St. between Dauphin and Conti Sts. That phase is expected to begin in early June, but not before completion of the first phase. Through traffic will be detoured approximately 5 months or until the completion of the project.
