Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile will hold an informational meeting on May 7 at Bishop State Community College about the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. “Complete Streets” project.
This meeting will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, at Bishop State Community College’s Center for Advanced Manufacturing Technology. This is an opportunity for stakeholders and residents to learn more about the upcoming improvements that will be made to MLK Jr. Ave.
This project will be the first “Complete Streets” redesign the city has undertaken of a major corridor in a historic neighborhood, and we want citizens and stakeholders to be engaged and informed. As the fourth phase of the “Redeveloping Broad Street” initiative, this project on MLK Jr. Ave. is being funded by a combination of federal, state, and local dollars as well as grants awarded to the city.
A “Complete Streets” project means the City Mobile will do more than repave MLK Jr. Ave. Some other planned features of the project include new underground utilities, improved stormwater assets, new pedestrian lighting, better traffic signals, sidewalks, street crossings, bike lanes, improved streetscaping, on-street parking and a seamless connection to the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail.
Through this project, the City of Mobile aims to reconnect neighborhoods, improve aging infrastructure and create attractive and safe spaces for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. This project will complement many other exciting things happening in this historic area of Downtown Mobile.
