USA Alumus Honored as Outstanding Young Banker

May 26th, 2004

James M. Alexander III, a 1993 political science and history graduate of USA, has been selected as the recipient of the Alabama Bankers Association Outstanding Young Banker Award for 2004.

The announcement was made at the annual Alabama Young Banker's convention this month in San Destin. The award is one of the most prestigious recognitions bestowed upon a young banker in Alabama. Each year chief executives and upper-level managers submit the names of deserving individuals to receive this coveted honor.

"To be honored like this is really very humbling," Alexander said. "I was shocked."

Alexander is Vice President and Branch Manager of the Dauphin Street branch of BankTrust. He currently attends the Alabama Banking School, where he is serving as president of the Class of 2005.

The Pi Kappa Phi college fraternity alumnus is a former member of the USA National Alumni Association board of directors.

Alexander is chairman of the USA Alumni Association's Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament, which will be played October 30 at Timber Creek Golf Course. For the past two years, his leadership has helped the tournament raise substantial funds for student scholarships.

Alumni Relations Director Carol Kittrell said she remembered Alexander from his undergraduate days as a Southerner, USA's student ambassador group.

"He was an extremely mature and very conscientious student," she said. "I felt back then that he would be successful."

Alabama's newest Outstanding Young Banker Award recipient is also involved in numerous community activities. An Eagle Scout and an active member of the Mobile Area Council Boy Scouts of America, he is currently serving as a member of the Council Camping Committee and Cubmaster of Pack 3.

Alexander and his wife, Sabrina, have two children, Sudduth 7, and Ethan 4.
