MOBILE, AL – On August 8, Josh Woods took the oath of office as the new Councilman for District 6. Councilman Woods promptly embarked on his responsibilities and reiterated his vision for the growth and progress of District 6.
 
"Scheduling community meetings is number one on my list," affirmed Councilman Woods, echoing a cornerstone of his campaign: a commitment to actively listen, learn, and lead. Addressing critical infrastructure projects, the Council authorized the renewal of an $18 million contract with the Alabama Department of Transportation. This ongoing collaboration centers on Zeigler Boulevard, with a specific focus on the stretch between Athey Road and Forest Hill Drive. Council Vice President Gina Gregory assured the community that the funding for this project is drawn from pre-approved resources and will have no adverse impact on existing or future projects.
 
Allocations exceeding $1 million from the Capital Improvement Plan were approved for citywide initiatives dedicated to drainage improvements and traffic signal upgrades. These enhancements include LED lights, visors, and cables, aimed at elevating safety and efficiency across various projects throughout the city.
 
A resolution was presented to University of South Alabama President Jo Bonner, commemorating the university's 60th Anniversary. The resolution recognizes USA’s profound impact as a major contributor to the educational and economic growth of Mobile.
