Policies and Procedures

Fees:


Four (4) Hour Driver Education Course
(Contact Alabama Safety Institute for current fee for course).

Six (6) Hour Advanced Driver Education Course
(Contact Alabama Safety Institute for current fee for course).


To voluntarily attend the four (4) hour Driver Education Course all of the following must be true:


  1. Must have a valid Drivers License.
  2. Do not have a Commercial Divers License (CDL).
  3. Have not attended a driving school within the last 24 months.
  4. Citation is not an aggravated offense, such as excessive speeding, reckless driving, etc.
  5. Citation does not require a court appearance.


To voluntarily attend the six (6) hour Driver Education Course following the must be true:


  1. Must have a calid drivers License.
  2. Do not have a Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
  3. Citation is a moving violation.
  4. Citation does not require a court appearance.
  5. Have not attended the Six (6) hour Advanced Course within the last 24 months.


Court Orders


An individual can be court ordered to attend ddriving school for any violation, with or without the citation being nol-prossed, and they do not have to meet any of the above criteria.


Infractions


The following infractions are eligible for the four (4) hour course:

  • Speeding (less than 25 miles over posted speed limit)
  • Running Red Light
  • Running Stop Sign
  • Improper Passing
  • Improper Turn
  • Failure to yield right of way
  • Failure to signal
  • Following Too Close
  • Driving without lights
  • Driving on Wrong Side of Road
  • Driving Wrong Way on One Way
  • Cutting thru to Avoid Red Light


The following infractions are eligible for the six (6) hour course:
Any Two (2) of the above violations received together Speeding (25 miles or more over posted speed limit)
